7/12/2023 0 Comments Doom 2016 snapmap is underwhelmingOnly occasionally neat in situational chaos, but layered in, I found the more automated 2016 refills to be perfectly cromulent. Both games offer the thrill of being low on resources and how you get it back wasnt really that engaging manually tossing an ice grenade or flame belch first. 2016 was no worse just having the piñata explosion of both health and armor after kills, but managing your ’nade cooldowns in Eternal.eh it wasnt really an upgrade and rarely in practice did I find it interesting. The new grenade mechanic in Eternal felt like the weakest add. Both games offer a combat sandbox, but more often I felt I was a bit pigeon-holed in Eternal, but not forced as some argue. I guess my takeaway was that the new rules and systems layered into the weapon and demon dynamics were more of a lateral shift than an upgrade. Not always for the best as it did feel like I wasn’t ‘punished’ for just gibbing demons with whatever in 2016(pinkies and other small exceptions aside), whereas in Eternal I did feel you get such an overwhelming advantage from using the right tool, though I mostly stuck to the flame shotgun anyway without too much trouble. Though 2016 does have its own set of tools for different demon types, Eternal really amped that up. It was interesting replaying it last year after finishing Eternal, as it does feel a bit slower and I got so accustomed to certain ‘weaknesses’ with some guns that were absent. Had no issue going back to 2016 after Eternal unlike some comments.
